Premier Colin Barnett and Education Minister Liz Constable today announced the next wave of schools to come Independent Public Schools in 2012 and 2013. This year a record 109 schools have been successful in their applications.

"I am pleased to announce that Winthrop Primary School has been successful in its application for Independent Public School status," Mr Porter said.

"Our policy to empower school communities is one of the most successful reforms in WA education over the past 30 years.

"In my electorate, Rossmoyne Senior High School, Oberthur Primary School and now Winthrop Primary School all enjoy the ability to have a greater say in how their children are educated", he said.

Today's announcement means Winthrop Primary School can work more closely with parents, communities and others to form the best local solution to their problems rather than relying on a one-size fits all approach.
