Protection of the WA coastline in Scarborough has been boosted with a State Government grant of $25,000.

Local Member for Scarborough, Liza Harvey MLA, welcomed the funding which would be used for profile surveying of Scarborough to Sorrento Beach.

“This is a valuable study that will inform future coastal management, given existing erosion and the value of public infrastructure at risk,” Mrs Harvey said.

Transport Minister Troy Buswell said that more than $1million has been allocated to 16 coastal protection projects around WA.

“The Coastal Protection Program grants, administered by the Department of Transport (DoT), ensure valuable coastal assets were protected from the impacts of ocean forces into the future,” Mr Buswell said.

“These grants foster a great partnership between State and local government and other coastal managers in efforts to manage one of the State’s most valuable assets.”

Each year coastal managers are invited to apply for grants representing 50 per cent of the total cost of a coastal protection project.

Activities that can be funded include coastal monitoring, planning, investigations, condition inspections, design, construction or maintenance.

A full list of the grant recipients is available at www.transport.wa.gov.au.Further information about the Coastal Protection grants is available by contacting DoT's Senior Coastal Engineer on 9216 8923.
