Local year six students took great pride competing for their school in the 2011 Cowan Challenge mixed basketball competition, hosted by the Federal Member for Cowan, Luke Simpkins MP, last Friday the 4th of November 2011.

The Cowan Challenge, which took place at the Warwick Leisure Centre, attracted 28 teams from 17 northern suburb primary schools.

“In a close battle, Mary MacKillop Catholic Community Primary School took out the large school competition, being crowned winners of the Cowan Challenge Cup.  In another close competition, Saint Anthony’s Primary School won the Cowan Challenge Shield in the smaller school competition,” said Mr Simpkins.

Results for both competitions were:

Cowan Challenge Cup

1st – Mary MacKillop Catholic Community Primary School

2nd – Liwara Catholic Primary School

3rd – Ballajura Primary School

Cowan Challenge Shield

1st – Saint Anthony’s Primary School

2nd – Hawker Park Primary School

3rd - East Wanneroo Primary School

“I have received some great feedback from students, staff and parents involved in the competition,” said Mr Simpkins.  “The students said that they had a great time meeting and competing against students from schools that they would not normally compete against.”

“While the Cowan Challenge is an interactive and fun day out for local students, it also helps promote competitive sport and healthier living with local primary school students,” concluded Mr Simpkins.

Ends.
