Aquatic centres doing their part to target 60.

Michael Sutherland MLA, Member for Mount Lawley today visited the Terry Tyzack Aquatic Centre with Water Minister Bill Marmion to congratulate the aquatic centre industry on its reduced water use of almost 10 per cent in the last year, due to the support of the Leisure Institute of WA Aquatics (LIWA) and the Water Corporation.

Michael Sutherland said “The Minister’s announcement is good news for Perth where our water reserves have been in steady decline. The aquatic centre industry has collectively reduced its water use by more than 96 million litres a year since 2010 which equals 42 Olympic-sized swimming pools.”

“The Terry Tyzack Aquatic Centre has been particularly impressive, reducing their usage by 50% over the last five years.”

This year’s “Target 60” water saving campaign aims to reduce summer water use by 60 litres per person per day.

“Since early December 2011approximately 2.9 billion litres of water have been saved and I congratulate the residents of Perth on their efforts. In last year’s campaign we exceeded the target and I hope that we can do it again this year.”
